Hip-Hop Mogul Suge Knight Arrested, Charged After Fatal Hit And Run

Late yesterday, there were reports that hip-hop mogul and generally fairly terrifying individual Suge Knight was a suspect in a fatal hit and run incident in Los Angeles.
Today, various sources say that Knight has surrendered to police in connection with the hit and run, and is being held in West Hollywood on a bail of U.S. $2m.
At around 3pm Thursday, L.A. time, a man fitting Knight’s description drove into the parking lot of a fast food restaurant in Compton, and began arguing with two men.
The man in question then attempted to back away from the fight in his vehicle, striking two others. A 55-year-old man, since identified as a friend of Knight’s who was attempting to get into the car at the time, died in hospital.
Another man, aged 51, was taken to hospital, and his condition is unknown.
An empty red pickup truck believed to be the one in the incident was found abandoned in a parking lot in West Los Angeles, and Knight subsequently turned himself in.
He surrendered to police at 1am, and was arrested and charged with murder just after 3am.
The former Death Row Records CEO was imprisoned for a probation violation in 1996, and was released in 2001. He was imprisoned again for parole violation in 2003, after a fight with a parking lot attendant.
In 2008, he was arrested on drug and assault charges, although he was cleared of these after police and prosecutors had difficulty contacting the victim.

Last year, Knight was shot at VMAs pre-party hosted by Chris Brown; several years before, he was shot at at another VMAs party hosted by Kanye West, and subsequently sued for mental and physical pain and the loss of a diamond earring.

He is currently on probation for driving on a suspended license, and will likely serve jail time following this latest incident.
Hip-hop stars GameIce Cube and Dr Dre were shooting a commercial in Compton at around the same time as the incident took place, but their sources say that they were nowhere near alleged hit and run, as has been reported by some.
