Hear Tame Impala Play Daytrotter Sessions

Tame Impala have recorded a few tunes of their spectacular headband-friendly debut Innerspeaker for the Daytrotter Sessions. Daytrotter is easily one of the best music blogs around, mainly because of the unique approach they bring to the over-crowded online music populace that distinguishes them from a heap of samey alternatives. They keep the recipe consistent: posting about one band a day, every day, accompanied by the distinct illustrations of in-house artist Johnnie Cluney, and 28 Daytrotter Session songs each week – live recordings on minimal equipment, straight to tape. The results are intimate, candid recorded performances. You can listen to a couple of the Tame Impala Session tracks below (“It Is Not Meant Be” and “Desire Be, Desire Go”), but first have a read of Daytrotter founding member Sean Moeller’s nostalgic musings on Innerspeaker that is so right on it hurts:

My father owned two motorcycles when we were growing up. They weren’t anything too special. They weren’t souped up or power machines, by any stretch of the imagination, but he would back them out of the barn every so often, gas them up and ask us if we wanted to go for a ride. We always did and that meant that we’d get an un-helmeted trip down the asphalt back roads to look at how the crops were growing, with our index fingers curled around a belt loop on each side of dad’s jeans. It was always fantastic weather when we’d do this and, really, it had to be, but it was almost as if the motorcycles brought out the pleasant conditions and the swelling, burnt out sunsets. A similar sensation tends to come over me when Tame Impala’s album, “Innerspeaker,” begins to play.

Nice.
