Guy Sebastian Told To Forget Australia, Take On World After Eurovision Win

Following his triumphant performance at Eurovision, which saw him place fifth overall, and the subsequent iTunes chart success of his song ‘Tonight Again’, Guy Sebastian is likely to be pondering his next move.
According to one of the competition’s judges, whatever that move happens to be, he should think bigger than Australia.
Amanda Pelman, one of five Australian Eurovision judges, has said that guy should “not concern himself” with Australia for a while, instead taking his chances overseas and staying clear of the tall poppy syndrome that the our local media enjoys.
“I would be absolutely saying to him you’ve got to stay out in the world because it’s now your oyster and you could lose the momentum,” Pelman said, per reports in The Age.
“With the tyranny of distance [in Australia], we’ve got to utilise something like this format that goes to 195 million people around the world,” Pelman, who has mentored the likes of Kylie Minogue in the past, continued.
“Record companies aren’t doing their jobs any more. The artists and the artists’ management have got to be much more creative and much more effective than sitting back and expecting the record company to do it. Which is what used to happen.”
After a campaign to reveal her age, Rebel Wilson complained that the Australian media has a bad case of “tall poppy syndrome”. If we eventually decide to turn on Guy in the same way, then he probably should try and shore up some international success while he can.
Meanwhile, thanks to his predilection for being funky and wearing hats, Guy Sebastian has been busily laughing off accusations that he’s biting Bruno Mars‘s style in the wake of his international success.
“I’m a fan of Bruno, I love Bruno but I don’t really see that comparison,” he said. “I’m quite happy being compared to him on any level and he’s an incredible artist but I’ve been [performing] for quite a long time and I’ve been doing that style of music for quite a long time.”
