Everett True Starts A Band

Way back in 2008 in/famous music critic Everett True wrote an open letter to the Brisbane music industry called “23 things I’d change about the Brisbane music scene.” The letter, as the title suggests, essentially named and shamed Brisbane venues and musicians that True didn’t like. He singled out one musician in particular, Edward Guglielmino, who he described as “Brisbane’s answer to Robert Smith, minus the tunes or talent” and urged to go away or “…at least move to Sydney.”

Rumour has it that the pair then started an email war, before eventually meeting up and bonding after a somewhat heated conversation. The rest is history, as they say, and the pair have since formed a band together (with fellow Brisbanites Margaret Collins and Scotty Regan) called ‘The Thin Kids’. The band recently recorded a track based on True’s letter, aptly titled ’23 Things I’d Change About Brisbane’, although we’re not sure if Guglielmino is mentioned in this version or not.

At the end of last year the band jumped on the Myspace bandwagon and reputedly received 1000 hits in 24 hours. They are playing their first live show at The Troubadour in Brisbane on Feb 24th and are set to tour at some point in 2010. True, who recently opened for Daniel Johnston at his recent Monster Children exhibition, is also set to pen a book about the musician.
