Fresh from his Best Rap Album Grammy, Drake has hit the ground running, dropping a clip for his new single Started From the Bottom, and slating a tentative (US) Summer release date for his new album Nothing Was the Same.
Adhering pretty close to the rags-to-riches story that the song’s title suggests, the Little-X directed Started From the Bottom clip charts Drake’s rise from a pee-wee soccer whiz, to promotion-hungry kiss-ass retail schlub, and finally to the cashed-up jet-setting, booty magnet, music mogul. Curiously, Drake’s 154 episode run on Degrassi – Next Generation fails to get a look in.
It’s all pretty standard rap-game fare bar the awkward pick-up scene diversion, the presence of which appears simply there to remind us that Drake is a good dude who sticks by his bros even though they got no game… And that there ain’t no party like an isle 3 (Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Mouthwash) party!
