And he’s back! After choking out our 90s dreams by failing to agree to terms that would have seen Blur headline the Big Day Out this year, frontman Damon Albarn has announced his debut Australian solo tour. The voice behind the Britpop behemoths and virtual band Gorillaz will play at least one intimate show at the Sydney Opera House, with a Melbourne show to be announced shortly.
Backed by his new live band The Heavy Seas (guitarist Seye Adelekan, drummer Pauli The PSM, guitarist Jeff Wootton and keyboardist Mike Smith) as well as orchestral players befitting of the venue – a string quartet and six-member choir – Albarn’s performance follows the release of his stunning sophomore solo album, Everyday Robots, featuring guest appearances from Brian Eno and Natasha Khan of Bat For Lashes.
