Billy Corgan Denies He’s Taylor Swift’s Dad In Lengthy, Very Normal Essay

Smashing Pumpkins singer and generally weird unit Billy Corgan has written a lengthy, two-part essay explaining that he’s not Taylor Swift‘s dad, after a meme made its way to his inbox.

The meme is a side-by-side comparison of a makeup-free Swift and a broody Corgan, offering ‘proof’ of her parentage, and while fairly clearly it’s a goof, it sent Billy into some pretty serious ruminating.

After accepting the compliment that he resembles “the lovely and talented Miss Swift”, the singer got into some heavy reflecting on how Billy Corgan is just a character he plays, writing:

“[Let] me express how I continue to be blown away by the number of messages I am receiving regarding these issues. There simply is no end to how many are struggling, and it seems to have some connection to this modern or Digital Age culture we are living in. Where what’s real is just as relevant, or so it appears, as to what is constructed, fake or false. Where a real you must negotiate time-space next to the more shiny or dark social media avatar of you, and so on and so forth up the food chain of governments and endless celebrity. Each tier of human life augmented to the point where what you no longer know what, or whom, to believe in; including God.”

He continued:

“There is NO such person as ‘Billy Corgan’. He (BC) does not exist. Or, if he does exist (per these times), he is a creation from my mind to yours, and no different than a cartoon drawing of Batman or Sponge Bob.”

Taylor Swift may also be experiencing some sort of existential crisis, with her most Instagram post pondering the fact that she is “constantly reaching for invisible things” on stage.

That could also be a reference to her dance moves, though.
