Beyoncé’s Surprise Clip For Newie ‘Formation’ Reminds Us Who’s In Charge

You might have worked out by now that Beyoncé has this whole “surprise tunes” thing on lock, but somehow the appearance of Formation remains an unexpected gift.

Perhaps we were temporarily blinded by the fact Coldplay – and now, Bruno Mars – had billing on the Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show along with Bey. Perhaps she figured the planet would temporarily slip in its duties, and decided dropping her first new solo tune in over a year would correct this grievous error. 

In any case, the tune is another Beyoncé Special, throwing celebrations of her history, culture and success – “I just might be a black Bill Gates in the making” – on top of an absolutely killer beat. It’s also up for grabs on TIDAL, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Word’s out on whether she’ll throw it down on stage tomorrow. Still, good luck topping that, Chris + Bruno.
