Manga and 60s psychedelia have a lot more in common than we usually give them credit for – unrealistic situations stemming from dreams and the unconscious, talking animals, flying houses, magic, and the Beatles. The outro to The Beatles’ version of Rockband has appeared this week featuring some manga-style Beatles amongst a 3D world of blooming flowers the size of skyscrapers and a flag waving elephant (or rhinoceros?).
Our minds are being blown wide open by this video from the folk at Passion Pictures – directed by Robert Candeland, it also features most of the crew who worked on the animations for virtual-band Gorillaz.
Sadly though the whole game isn’t treated with the same aesthetic decadence, but I guess that’s okay because how could you even focus on playing the game with these beautiful images before you?
