Aus Label Signs Exclusive With Legendary Sub Pop

Australian record label Intertia has just landed a crazy coup with one of the most influential independent record labels in America (if not the world); Intertia announced today that it has signed an exclusive Australian distribution deal with legendary Sub Pop Records – encompassing all of Sub Pop’s current signees as well as their epic back catalogue.

For those unfamiliar with the label, Sub Pop was founded in Seattle by Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman during the mid-Eighties and were the first label to sign Nirvana, Soundgarden, Mudhoney – and so were basically responsible for the most important music movement of the last two generations, Grunge. Later on they championed the Shins, Wolf Parade, Afghan Whigs, Sleater-Kinney, The Postal Service… You get the picture.

Intertia, a label that this year celebrates its 10th birthday, is similarly responsible for bringing tunes by some the best artists out there to our ears and in our local venues: Wavves, Grizzly Bear, The xx, Caribou, Sia, The National, Santigold, !!! (Chk Chk Chk) and Miike Snow, and represent a heap of quality local artists including Midnight Juggernauts, PVT, Bridezilla and Pendulum.

Inertia’s partnership with Sub Pop will kick off with the release of new albums from awesome noise duo No Age (‘Everything In Between’) as well as the first album in over 20 years from pioneering Glasgow duo (not to mention Kurt Cobain’s favourite band), The Vaselines (‘Sex With An X’). Yew!
