AC/DC Drummer Charged With ‘Attempting To Procure A Murder’

What’s the most rock and/or roll thing you’ve ever done? A drug? Download a Taylor Swift song without paying for it? AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd was arrested in New Zealand this morning and charged with attempting to procure a murder, which is legalese for taking out a hit on not one but two men (!!!).

The Australian-born sexagenarian percussionist sat in the dock in silence as he appeared in New Zealand’s Tauranga District Court this afternoon where he entered no plea to the charges levelled against him following his arrest during a raid on his home at 7:00am this morning. He has also been charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of cannabis (a repeat offence) and threatening to kill.
The Age are reporting that Rudd was granted bail on the condition that he have no contact with the man he allegedly tried to hire in order to have two other men killed. Their identities have been suppressed for the interim between now and Rudd’s next appearance in court three weeks from now.
Rudd was reportedly driven from court by a blonde woman in a Mercedes – very glamourous – and, it seems pretty safe to say, is now on a highway to cell.
AC/DC’s new album, Rock or Bust, is out December 2nd.
Rock or bust! Can you even?
UPDATE 07/11 1:10PM: The Crown Solicitor have withdrawn the charge of attempting to procure a murder on the basis of insufficient evidence.
