AC/DC Bass Player Cliff Williams Is Leaving The Band After 39 Years

Aussie rockers AC/DC have been having a real tough time of it recently. First they lost longtime guitarist Malcolm Young, who is receiving treatment for dementia. Then drummer Phil Rudd was hit with a litany of criminal charges. Then singer Brian Johnson jumped ship to deal with hearing problems.

Not a great time all round.
Now, longtime bass player Cliff Williams, who has been with the band since 1977, is also calling it a day. He told Florida magazine Gulfshore Life that he’s retiring after this conclusion of this tour – which somewhat controversially features Axl Rose on vocals.
“It’s been what I’ve known for the past 40 years, but after this tour I’m backing off of touring and recording,” he said. “Losing Malcolm, the thing with Phil and now with Brian, it’s a changed animal. I feel in my gut it’s the right thing.”

Here’s to you, Cliff. Your rock-solid bass lines were like the anchor to AC/DC’s sound and be bloody salute ya for it. Off ya go.
