These Sci-Fi Themed Workouts Will Have You Sweating Dragon Balls


A concept-gym has opened up in the cultural hub that is North Hollywood, offering workouts like The Dungeons and Dragons Guide To Fitness, Project Thor, The Angry Birds Workout Plan, Eye of Sauron, Guardian Gone Bad Circuit and The Harry Potter ‘Sorting Hat’ Workout.
 
Nerdstrong Gym, the establishment responsible for this fantastic collision of subculture and squats, says it offers “fitness training for those of us who want to become heroes in a collaborative, not competitive, environment”, and was created to bring together like-minded people with the aim of ‘Creating Superheroes’.

Or, as the Nerdstrong website reads:
“There was no good, safe place for us, for the geeks and nerds, to begin our fitness journey. WE DECIDED TO CHANGE THAT.”


The Thor Workout, for example, is an intense 10-week strength building program with the end goal of helping you lift a ‘Mjölnir’, which, if you read further, isn’t actually a tangible object but a unit of measurement to represent “the poundage above your personal records”. Translation = helping you reach a PB (personal best).

Head coach/owner Andrew Duetsch, and his justice league of trainers aren’t just qualified in fitness (with the Seven Gods as their witness) they also proudly flaunt their certified “nerd hobbies” i.e. cosplay, PC gaming, Settlers of Catan, physics, comics and Game of Thrones.
Sadly, the LA-based gym is a branch of one at the moment, but we’ve got big hopes for a global takeover.
