It’s A Shithot Year For Aussies At The Emmys So Here’s Your Full Rundown

The day has finally arrived dear friends! It’s time for everyone’s fourth or fifth favourite awards ceremony, the Emmys!

Whilst it may not have the obscene glitz and glamour of the Oscars, nor the potential for dramatic on-stage feuds as the VMA’s, the annual celebration of the past year of television is always, mostly, a good time, as all those shows you fervently binge-watched and discussed around the water-cooler fight it out for the Iron Throne a trophy or two.

The 69th (NICE) Emmy Awards is also lining up to be a boonta year for Aussie talent in the fray, with many Strayans not only up for gongs, but in many cases the outright front-runner.

Here’s the local lads and ladies hoping to take home a shiny new chunk of metal later today:

Nicole Kidman

OUR Nicole is the shining light in Australia’s chances for a gong, with her spectacular turn as a besieged wife trapped in a violent relationship in ‘Big Little Lies’ scoring her a nom for outstanding lead actress in a limited series or movie. A lot of peeps are considering her the front-runner, although with the likes of Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon also in the fray it could be close.

Geoffrey Rush

The Rushdog, one of Australia’s finest talents to ever grace a screen is also looking not too shabby in his contentions for an Emmy, nominated in outstanding lead actor in a limited series or movie for his portrayal of world’s greatest nerd Albert Einstein in NatGeo’sGenius‘. Whilst Rush is a literal Oscar winner, he is up against this lil’ newcomer named Robert DeNiro, so it might be a toughy for him to ultimately win.

Judy Davis

Judy Davis has been knocking shit out of the park for decades now and much like Geoffrey, is one our foremost thespians. She’s in the run for outstanding supporting actress in a limited series or movie, for ‘Feud‘, the Ryan Murphy (‘Glee‘, ‘American Horror Story‘) helmed drama in which she portrays sassy af Hollywood critic Hedda Hopper. Her main competition in the field is Laura Dern, who tbh will probs just edge her out.

Kate Dennis / Bruna Papandrea

Moving behind the camera and we’ve got a couple of Aussies gunning for Emmy’s as well, with Kate Dennis, director for the hugely successful ‘The Handmaids Tale‘ up for outstanding directing for a drama series and Bruna Papandrea representing ‘Big Little Lies’ as a producer which is up for outstanding limited series (and should almost def take out the win).

So there ya have it. The you beaut Aussies going hard for some Emmy glory.

The Emmy’s kick off 10am Sydney time today and we’ll be sure to bring you all the juicy deets as they happen.
