GLOW, Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling, is Netflix‘s bodyslamming, bloody awesome, and very ’80s fashion aesthetic TV success starring Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, Sydelle Noel, and Britt Baron to name a few.

The win was not just a historic one but a bloody tough one because GLOW‘s competition was Brooklyn Nine-Nine, SNL, Shameless, and Cobra Kai.

Per DeadlineDuggins said backstage that she was “honoured to be the first woman” to win the award and gave thanks to her colleagues. Though she is the first woman to receive the award, Duggins also said GLOW “in general, breaks the mould for women.”

The Creative Arts Emmys recognises outstanding artistic and technical talent across a number of genres. There’s also a number of awards for best guests performances in a weekly series.

Meanwhile, HBO‘s Game of Thrones took home a mammoth seven trophies out of its total 22 nominations. Surprised but not surprised.

GOT took home the awards for:

  • Outstanding Prosthetic Make-up for a Series, Limited Series, Movie, or Special
  • Outstanding Special Visual Effects
  • Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score)
  • Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Drama Series, Limited Series or Movie
  • Outstanding Fantasy/ Sci-Fi Costume
  • Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Period or Fantasy Program (One Hour or More)
  • Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour)

Makes sense.

FX‘s spectacular series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story also did damn well, taking home four awards on night one. If you’ve watched the series, you won’t be surprised to find out they bagged the win for Outstanding Contemporary Costumes.

Night two of the Creative Arts Emmys will continue tonight while the 70th Primetime Emmys ceremony will take place on September 17.
