It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that Australian televisual institution RocKwiz has apparently reached the end of its formidable life.
SBS Channel Manager Ben Nguyen today confirmed to TV Tonight that the show will no longer go on: “The decision we’ve made is that it is time to call an end to RocKwiz after a long success on SBS. Julia became a big talent through SBS but it is a natural decision as channels evolve and [move] into new spaces over time.“
In a tweet posted this evening, host Julia Zemiro confirmed the news: “Yes it’s true [RocKwiz] officially is no longer[.] While disappointing I must celebrate their vision a decade ago to give us a chance in the first place. We were the little ship that could. And did.“
The show aired for 14 seasons, beginning back in 2005, and showcased both emerging and established Australian musicians in just about as informal a setting as you can get from recorded television.
