Cole Sprouse, man from our childhoods and now Riverdale, has a new movie coming out next year. It’s called Five Feet Apart and co-stars Haley Lu Richardson.

Five Feet Apart, directed by Justin Baldoni, introduces us to Stella Grant (Richardson), a seventeen-year-old with Cystic Fibrosis who spends a lot of her time in the hospital – her life is routines, boundaries, and self-control.
Cystic Fibrosis primarily affects the lungs and digestive system and causes the individual to develop a thick build up of mucus within the airways and digestive system which can lead to bacteria being trapped in the lungs and digestive impairments. A person with CF must undergo constant treatment.
At the hospital, Stella meets fellow CF patient Will Newman (Sprouse) and as these movies tend to go, they fall in love but it’s not easy especially because they must maintain a safe distance between them to avoid cross-infection.
As things start to feel more and more real, the teens find themselves risking their limits for each other.
In an interview with Teen Vogue, Sprouse said: “There are some roles that carry a real responsibility for accurate representation, this was one of them.”
Claire’s Place Foundation, a non-profit organisation that both highlights public awareness of CF and supports families living with the disease, worked with the film. In a Facebook post, the organisation wrote that in working with the cast members and film crew, they hope the movie will “accurately portray the reality of life with cystic fibrosis.”
On Twitter, viewers – particularly those with CF – are feeling hopeful while others are quite sceptical about it.

Not all awareness is good awareness and, personally, five feet apart is just another story in the long tradition of portraying terminal illness and disability by abled actors for the sake of making healthy people glad they’re not personally sick or disabled.
