On the off chance you have some kind of life and have been rude by, you know, living it, I should probably let you know that Season 5 of Stan’s ‘Younger’ starts this Wednesday. Will Liza – who is a 40-something pretending to be a 20-something – finally choose between her hot, young ex Josh and her hot, mildly old boss Charles?
Let’s be real here: probably not. And according to Nico Tortorella, who plays Josh in the highly addictive Darren Star series, that mightn’t be such a bad thing. When PEDESTRIAN.TV asked the fine specimen if he’s on Team Josh or Team Charles, he replied:
“Neither one of them. They both kind of suck for her.”
Well shit – he ain’t wrong, but surely you’d bat for your own character, right?
“Both of their relationships were started off of a lie. Charles is still under the impression that Liza is this 26-year-old assistant, which is highly problematic. And Josh? Josh is a good dude but I don’t see it in the long term for them. I like, love the idea of them being really good friends who like…can fuck every now and then.”
Look, not going to say no to more of Josh and Liza’s literal fuckery.
But because Tortorella is a name that can do no wrong (and one that makes me crave Italian every time I hear it), he has a fabbo reason behind not picking a side.
“I don’t think either one of them are a good fit in terms of a long-term relationship slash I don’t think that Liza necessarily needs a long term relationship. I think – for me – Liza should be team Liza and not anyone else, you know what I mean? She should come first and anyone else is icing on the cake.”
Um, have my children.
Regardless of how IRL Josh feels, he does make a valid point about his storyline with Liza having run its course and maybe expiring in S5. “We’ve gotten a lot of the Team Josh storyline, right? So I think there’s room for more of the Team Charles storyline, but that doesn’t mean that anything stays in either direction.”
Spoiler: Liza’s definitely about to cop some more action from the daddy to end all daddys.
We did ask if that Josh and Kelsey storyline is gonna resurface too because fuck it why not, you know?
“I hope so! Come on, Hilary Duff?! Such a babe, I love her so much. I grew up on Lizzie McGuire, she was everything.”
“She’s always been known as the.. you know… normal one to come out of Disney – and I have spent a lot of time with a lot of the other ones who have come out of Disney – so it was nice to see one who, you know, has her head on her shoulders.”
