Celebrating Women’s Day With An Ode To The Biggest Legends On Our Screens RN

With International Women’s Day rolling ’round once again, it’s time to celebrate all the incredible ladies in our lives.

Whether we know them IRL, admire them from afar or watch them on screen, there is no shortage of strong and fabulous women living their lives and thriving.

There are so many series out with fierce female characters who remind us that inspiring chicks are everywhere.

Here, I’ve listed just some of my fave gals from a few beloved TV shows.

Sutton, Jane and Kat – The Bold Type

They’re bold, they’re brave, and they’ve saved not just each other’s butts, but their entire freaking magazine on several occasions.

Over the course of The Bold Type’s four seasons, we’ve seen them grow from wee little assistants to powerful boss babes and their determination to get the job done is nothing short of ~inspiring~.

But it’s not all sunshine and lollipops for these ladies as in the latest season Jane (Katie Stevens) is dealing with major relationship issues (all while juggling a book tour) and Kat (Aisha Dee) has qualms of her own with Adena (Nikohl Boosheri) while still killing it at work.

And as for Sutton (Meghann Fahy), she’s managed to carve out a career as a fashion influencer, all while grappling with the difficulties of a long-term relationship.

If you want a lesson in multi-tasking (AKA conquering the world whilst dealing with personal shit), check out the spicy new season of The Bold Type.

Dawn – Black Monday

In this house, we stan a period show, so Black Monday is riiight up my alley and I promise you’ll be hooked too.

But while all the stockmarket tea is absolutely compelling to watch (especially considering it was based on a true story), my eyes were glued, GLUED, I tell you, to Regina Hall’s character, Dawn.

Not only are her ’80s outfits a total vibe, but she also gives us some incredible comedic moments, all the while proving that she’s a valuable piece of the puzzle.

A true dynamic queen, I tell ya.

With the hotly anticipated second season of the comedy series set to drop on March 15, now’s the time to get acquainted with my girl, Dawn via the acclaimed first season, only on Stan.

Zoey – Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist

Stan’s latest offering Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist is an absolute treat for the eyes and ears, what with its catchy songs and sick dance routines, but also because of its lead star.

Zoey Clarke (Jane Levy) is our singing, dancing, music-loving heroine, but like all the other women in my life, she’s no one-trick pony.

Her whimsical side is balanced with the fact that she is an absolute GENIUS.

You see, Zoey is a computer coder by trade who develops the ability to hear people’s deepest, darkest thoughts and desires via popular songs – proving that girls can be both creatively brilliant and an absolute computer wizard, all at the same time.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist is now streaming, with new eps dropping same day as the US, only on Stan.

Grace Adler – Will & Grace

Honey! Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big Karen Walker (Megan Mullally) fan boi, but I’ve also found Grace Adler (Debra Messing) to be the heart and soul of the series, and it’s not just ‘coz her name is in the title.

Will & Grace has had 11 seasons across its two incarnations and although our girl has obviously grown (like becoming a mama in the final season), she’s always been totally and unapologetically herself.

frizzy hair, and all

She’s loyal and protective of her friends, she’s a goof ball who fucks up often and she’s a smart-minded businesswoman.

All the different sides to her personality make her an admirable character, one who has charmed our telly screens for several decades now.

Catch Grace in all her whimsy on Stan with every ep of the OG series, and the revival which is STILL releasing new eps.

Meredith Grey – Grey’s Anatomy

Ah, what can ya say about queen Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo)?

She’s the most gifted surgeon at Seattle Grace hospital, she’s the soothing voice that delivers the voiceover and she’s been in every goddamn season of the long-running series.

Many a character has come and gone from Grey’s Anatomy but with this cool yet confidant, supportive but spicy, butt-kicking and beer-slinging goddess at the helm, we’ve always been in good (surgical) hands.

Grey’s Anatomy has been praised for making great strides for women on TV and it’s all thanks to the woman who brings Meredith to life, Miss Ellen Pompeo.

Now, Meredith is my personal fave from the series but there’s a whole roster of other inspiring female doctors, from the sassy Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) to the super sweet Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl).

Head to Stan and scrub in, stat, to get inspired.
