Fuck I love me some profanity. It just adds emphasis that other words can’t, and for that reason I’ll fucking incorporate a naughty word as I damn-well fucking please.
If you’re of the same persuasion, you’ll probably be all over upcoming flick Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Actual-fucking-boss Frances McDormand plays Mildred, who launches a a crusade against the police in her small town after her daughter is raped and murdered.
As you can see in the trailer below, she slaps in some “fuck”, “piss” and “cunt” like it ain’t no thang. And look, if that happened to my immediate family and I didn’t get any closure, you bet your ass I’d be dropping aggression left, right and centre too.
While such a theme would suggest it’d fit right within the emotional drama genre, the serious Oscar contender, written + directed by pure genius Martin DcDonagh prides itself as an original black comedy.
Brutal honesty paired with unbearable trauma and somewhat uncomfortable humour is what’s set to make this one stand out from the crowd, not to mention a fierce female protagonist / heroine in McDormand. If the trailer’s anything to go by, she’s gonna reel in the audience with her button-pushing, unapologetic and unfiltered vengeance on a system that so ruthlessly wronged her and her family.
Her performance, alongside Australia’s own Abbie Cornish and Samara Weaving (homegirl’s seriously having a Hollywood moment), plus other acting heavyweights like Woody Harrelson, is going to be one for the books. Hello, Academy Award.
With that being said, it’s best you don’t fall behind in topical conversation or A+ viewing and see this one as soon as humanly possible. While it hits cinemas officially on January 1st, 2018 (hangover day at the movies, anyone?), we’ve got tix to see it a full fortnight before everyone else in Sydney and Melbourne on the 13th of December.
