Will & Kate’s Royal Visit Cost Australia a Pretty Penny

Redheaded royal miscreant Prince Harry made a flying visit to Australia last year, and it was revealed that our government ponied up $150,000 for his two-night stay. His brother Will and sister-in-law Kate came to our fair nation earlier this year for a 10 night sojourn, and it has been revealed that their trip came in at a still-eye-watering but comparatively pretty reasonable $474,582.

News Limited ran a breakdown of the tab, which was released by the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet following a Freedom of Information request. Transportation costs made up the largest part, followed by the intriguingly vague “media liaison” (we don’t remember them buying Kyle Sandilands any Cartier watches, but sure) and then hospitality and event costs.
Harry – who sips only the finest Dom P, because he’s smooth like that – cost the Australian public around $75,000 per night all on his lonesome, while The Queen and Prince Philip‘s 10-day visit back in 2011 stacked up about the same. William, Kate and George, a family of three, only cost us a shade over $47,000 per night, or a little more than $15,000 per-royal per-day.

According to figures released earlier this year, a private gig from Rihanna will run you upwards of $500,000 – why pay that when our impeccable logic tells us that you can have the royal baby come gurgle at you for the bargain price of $15,000? Rih’s a pop star, George is the future goddamn king of England. It’s a no-brainer, right, people?

While the royal couple were in the country, fearless leader Tony Abbott took plenty of opportunities to smile creepily at and around Baby George, as he did here:
