People have been calling Donald Trump a belligerent racist for a long time. A very long time. Yet the past week has seen those claims rise to a stunning crescendo, with the KKK, Nazism, and his history of plain ol’ intolerance coming to the fore.
Saturday Night Live has obviously been paying attention. They’ve just knocked together a campaign ad that channels nearly every racially motivated sentiment to have tumbled half-formed out of the Don’s yelping maw, and reflects it through his supporters. Apologies for the teeny vision:
Keep in mind as you watch, this is the same show that actually propped the bloke on-stage to awkwardly gyrate to Hotline Bling.
Does that make the latest swipe at the Republican front-runner and his ardent followers a little opportunistic? Well, maybe. Does it reflect the vein of antipathy broader society has shown to his recent antics, and the people who support them? Yes. Yes it does.
