Say what you like about broadcast television, but they somehow still know how to dredge up the goods when the time is right. Case in point, the British programme You Saw Them Here First, which was super popular back in the day and has just returned to screens. As you can imagine, it focuses on stars before they were famous, and this week, it’s Nicki Minaj.
As a master chimera, much of Minaj’s past is cloaked in mystery and intrigue. To many, she seemed to appear fully formed as a rap femme fatale a la Lil Kim. In this clip, we see rare footage of Minaj (back when her name was Onika) in highschool doing drama. In this scene, she channels what will later become known as her Monster persona and hurls a phone at some poor white girl. Her teacher actually disciplines her, which is kind of awesome. And the snarky English voiceovers just make the whole thing even sweeter.
