In a trial that has lasted three years the recent court appearance of Naomi Campbell has made headlines as she testified at the war crimes tribunal of former Liberian president Charles Taylor yesterday.
A prim Campbell (dressed in Alaia) gave evidence regarding blood diamonds the former president allegedly gave her after a dinner party hosted by Nelson Mandela in 1997.
It seems seeking justice for thousands of dead Sierra Leone civilians in the name of blood diamonds that funded civil war isn’t overly high on Naomi’s agenda as she tells the court: “This is a big inconvenience for me.” Her evidence has turned out to have been rather counter-productive to the prosecution. Note the circumstances under which she became the recipient of the alleged blood diamonds. Imagine being so casual about anonymous gifting at midnight in war torn Africa?
