Yesterday, your pal Ellen DeGeneres posted a moderately gnarly x-ray image to her Twitter account, showing her phalanges in… well, an interesting arrangement.

Welp, she held true on her promise to explain exactly what happened, and let us be the first to say “this whole scenario is almost too bloody relatable.”
Opening her show with an address to the audience, she sported her bandaged ring finger and said “you know how in gymnastics when you do a one-handed cartwheel and you have to spread the weight evenly between all your fingers?
“Well, I had two glasses of wine and fell into a door.”
The set-up for the fall was simple enough: after returning to her pad with partner Portia DeRossi, she stumbled on “the lip of the top step” and collapsed into the door. Understandably, after seeing her finger’s odd angle, the pair headed to the hospital.
She was fine in the end, despite apparently inventing “three new” curse words, and even invited the couple whom she met in the waiting room onto the show. We wish we were that magnanimous after an intoxicated mishap, but hey.
