Uzo Aduba A.K.A. Crazy Eyes Plays Hopkins’ Hannibal Lecter, Chills Spines

When Sir Anthony Hopkins took to the screen as cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter in 1991’s The Silence of the Lambs, he both scared the living bajeesus out of the public and won the Academy Award for Best Actor, despite appearing on screen for just shy of 16 minutes.

It was one of the most phenomenal performances of the 20th Century, which until now we kinda assumed no one could touch it and hold a candle up, close, or anywhere near it. Yet Orange Is The New Black‘s Uzo Aduba – a.k.a. Crazy Eyes – has taken it on and abso-bloody-lutely nailed it. It’s goddam spine-chilling, we tell ya.

There’s no cell, no bars, and no Clarice Starling, but sweet Jesus if this isn’t one of the best scenes of 2015.

Aduba’s performance is part of a role reversal project, launched at Glamour today, shows how female actors can sink their teeth into (all-too-frequently) meatier male roles and straight-up nail it. Also taking on and rising to the challenge are Julie Garner as Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood (Daniel Day Lewis), and Abigail Breslin as Tyler Durden in Fight Club (Brad Pitt).

Hey, guys? Just fangin’ you a request for Julianne Moore doing Frank Understand. Cheers mates.
