Universal Tries To Make James Bond Type Spy Movie ‘Section 6,’ Gets Sued

MGM has filed a lawsuit in the US federal court against NBCUniversal who had only just hired Joe Cornish (Attack The Block) to direct their upcoming movie Section 6. The film is based on “the origin story of the formation of Great Britain’s secret intelligence agency, Military Intelligence, Section 6, also known as MI6.“

A statement from MGM alleges that the movie is a blatant ripoff and basically amounts to ‘nice try, fuckers’: “This lawsuit concerns a motion picture project, in active development, featuring a daring, tuxedo-clad British secret agent, employed by ‘His Majesty’s Secret Service,’ with a ‘license to kill,’ and a 00 (double-O) secret agent number on a mission to save England from the diabolical plot of a megalomanical villain. Most moviegoers would assume from that description alone that this lawsuit concerns the next James Bond picture. It does not. Universal and Berg have copied in detail nearly every aspect of the characters, plots, dialogue, themes. setting, mood and other key elements of the copyrighted James Bond literary works and motion pictures.”

Elsewhere, in the Official Bond Universe™, rumour mills are working at max capacity shipping Chiwetel Ejiofor and the upcoming THE James Bond® film. It is being reported that the next 007 Licensed To Film©, starring Daniel Craig and helmed by Skyfall director Sam Mendes, will also star Ejiofor as the ‘villain.’

This will, of course, be a fucking ideal situation appreciated by fans of Chiwetel and his superb acting talents in general but most especially by those privileged enough to have experienced his criminally underrated (as is the way with all things Firefly related) and decidedly perfect performance as The Operative in Serenity.
