After traditionally requesting cameos from concrete physical items such as balloons, keys, light bulbs, hooks and rocks, Tropfest have unveiled an abstract noun – change – as this year’s signature item. Which is change we can believe in/watch 6-10 short films about because an abstract TSI is more likely to provide us with an experimental approach to short form storytelling and the ability to meet some interesting Aussie filmmakers.
Entries for the venerable Australian short film competition open August 15th and close on October 10th. Films must be no longer than seven minutes and must include this year’s Tropfest Signature Item (TSI): “Change”. On offer for the winning filmmaker is a brand new car, a Nikon D800 DSLR plus $2,000RRP worth of Nikkor lenses, $10,000 thanks to Kennedy Miller Mitchell and a film immersion trip to Los Angeles, where the winner will meet with industry executives.
