The Star Of GetUp’s Gay Marriage Ad Is Straight

GetUp‘s phenomenal ‘It’s Time’ ad spot to end marriage discrimination was possibly one of the most moving 2 minutes of YouTube created this year.

The video went gangbusters on the Internet, with over 2 million views in less than five days and a huge positive response from international identities including Stephen Fry, Perez Hilton and Rosie O’Donnell. If by some stroke of fate you haven’t watched it, here is is:

Campaign director Paul Mackay has taken us behind the scenes to show what went in to making the clip and some of the challenges facing the creators who had to deal issues surrounding point of view and diagetic sound. Also a revelation, the star of the clip, Julian Shaw, is a straight New Zealand-born man who is actually a documenatry maker himself. The whole thing is pretty amazing, especially given the Labour party’s recent decision during their December conference. Well done, bros.
