With another impressive turnaround period a few days after David Letterman announced his retirement from the Late Show after a thirty year tenure, The Simpsons have paid tribute to the nearly departed host with a meandering, typically crotchety couch gag sequence that’s equal parts intentionally underwhelming and heart-warming.

While it’s no Guillermo Del Toro directed set piece or Hayao Miyazaki tribute, it’s still an apt tribute from one long-running late night TV stalwart to another.
