Hustlers is fast-approaching Australian screens and, judging by Twitter’s first reactions, we’re in for a champagne-flowin’, booty-poppin’, money-stealin’ spectacle. Hell yeah.
Although initial screenings have already been taking place across the States over the past couple of weeks, there’d been a social media embargo until now preventing the lucky preview attendees from sharing their thoughts to the cyberworld.
Well, now that the embargo has been lifted, Twitter is being flooded with congratulations to the cast and crew, particularly to Ms. JLo and writer-director Lorene Scafaria.
Check out some of the initial thoughts below. Nearly all of the reviews have been extremely favourable.
There’s a shot in #Hustlers of JLo laying down luxuriously wearing a bikini and a floor-length fur coat, smoking a cigarette, that is the single greatest shot of all time PERIODT.

#Hustlers is fabulous! Witty, bawdy & bangin’, Lorene Scafaria’s pastiche is an enticing mix of cinéma vérité & mob movie inspiration. Jennifer Lopez’s delivers the goods (her strongest character-driven performance since OUT OF SIGHT). #TIFF19 pic.twitter.com/mPZMBmc28s

#HUSTLERS was a JOY. Jennifer Lopez is a BEAST. Cardi is a natural talent. Seeing a movie like this with a woman (Lorene Scafaria) behind the camera gave it such a different energy than you traditionally get in a genre men like Soderbergh and Scorsese have made their own.

#Hustlers is empowering, dark, sad, funny, sexy and so much effing fun. J Lo can’t and won’t be stopped. Most impressed with writer-director Lorene Scafaria.

I didn’t know I needed a stripper heist film written and directed by a woman. But god bless HUSTLERS. Constance Wu is fantastic. And in my opinion, this is J.Lo’s strongest performance since Selena #TIFF19

Review early next week, but #Hustlers is very good. A thoughtful, nuanced and character-driven dramedy with terrific work from Constance Wu and Jennifer Lopez. The hype is real, and it's easily one of the best films thus far from STX. pic.twitter.com/SMTlYeZXDy

Hustlers just about broke the internet earlier this year when its stellar lineup was announced, featuring the likes of Lizzo, Cardi B, Constance Wu, Lilli Reinhart, Stormi Maya, and Keke Palmer. A lot of hyper has surrounded the film since then, so I’m just relieved that the film is not only living up to the hype, but surpassing it. That’s fiercedom, honey.
Hustlers is officially released in 10 October. My body is ready.
