‘The Book Of Mormon’ Is Coming To Melbourne In 2017

Brace yourselves, theatre fans/comedy fans/fans of fun things in general. This is an absolute doozy.

The global smash-hit Broadway musical The Book of Mormon is headed to Melbourne in 2017.
The performance, a magnificently vulgar skewering of mormon missionaries from the brains of South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, will open in Melbourne’s Princess Theatre in early 2017, according to the announcement made by Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews on social media today.

I’m thrilled we’re bringing the most successful piece of theatre in the world today to Victoria – The Book of Mormon…

The production opened on Broadway in 2011, and has since remained open for a run that has spanned some 1,700 performances. The show has also toured the US on multiple occasions, and made the journey to London’s West End in 2013.
Following widespread critical acclaim upon its opening, The Book of Mormon picked up 9 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score.
The musical centres on a pair of Mormon Missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and their travels to Uganda on their mormon mission.
No specific date for the show to open has been set, but it’s likely that pre-production will begin imminently.
