The Austin Powers Musical Is On Its Way

Mike Myers has confirmed that he is working on a musical adaptation of his wildly successful late ’90s spy spoof franchise, Austin Powers.

Word is the musical will be an origin story which precedes the trilogy of films that ended with Goldmember. The plot will explain how Powers ‘found his mojo’ in 1960s London. Oh, and the music will be set to the tunes of Burt Bacharach and Elvis Costello. Did someone say “Yeah, baby, yeah!”? Casey Nicholaw, currently killing it on Broadway with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone‘s Book Of Mormon is in talks to direct. Austin Powers, you may remember, had many musical numbers in its films which went on to gross something in the realm of $700 Million Dollars (said in Dr Evil voice). Beyonce starred in the second installment as Foxxy Cleopatra, and who can forget this great rap number?

It also inspired Ludacris‘ crossover hit, which sees the man going toe-to-toe with Quincy Jones in what is arguably the funniest rap video ever.

Ergo, music will not be a problem and this will be awesome. Someone book us a ticket to NYC.
