‘Suicide Squad’ Is Getting $10 Million In Reshoots Because It’s Not Funny

Things haven’t been as dramatically positive for DC Comics as they have been for Marvel Comics when it comes to cinema. ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ has done pretty well commercially, but it’s being excoriated for being a long, plodding and deeply unenjoyable film.
Well, seems like Warner Bros are realising that superhero movies should at least be a little fun. Their trailer for bad guys supergroup team-up ‘Suicide Squad’ got a lot of positive reception for looking a lot more fun than people expected it would. There was one problem though: the trailer contained all of the jokes. The actual movie? Not that funny.
So, seeing a potential problem, Warner Bros is pouring $10 million into minor reshoots to slip more gags and jokes into the final picture, to lighten the mood a little bit. Y’know. Little tweaks. Just to make sure all the jokes in the movie aren’t already in the trailer.
‘Suicide Squad’ stars Will Smith, Jared Leto and Margot Robbie, and follows some DC Comics villains as they team up to be heroes for once.
It’s basically a no-brainer that they should have been thinking about tone in the first place: nobody watches ‘The Avengers’ because it’s a sad, ponderous exercise in being broody. They watch it because it’s enjoyable. DC Comics adaptations are darker – and so they should be – but it doesn’t mean they can’t be a little playful too.
The movie hits cinema screens in August, so this is fairly late in the game to be tweaking the tone and doing reshoots. Oh well. Let’s see how it goes.
