Star Wars Fans UnChill About ‘Jurassic World’ Director Taking On Episode IX

A derivative of the above headline is inevitable whenever Hollywood tries to go in on a classic. Rarely does a single job appointment carry with it the hopes and dreams of millions of humans and short of choosing George Lucas himself, this one was always going to contentious.

Since the announce yesterday that Colin Trevorrow, who up until this year was best known for directing Safety Not Guaranteed, would be helming Episode XI, fans of the franchise have been vocal about their feelings of despair.

Most recently Trevorrow gained recognition as the director and one of 7 writing credits for Jurassic World – a movie that divided fans but consolidated the price of admission into a $billion+ profit. He will not be working on the script for XI, which may prevent it from falling through any jurassic-sized plot holes; his appointment rounds out the three new films and confirms Lucas has a type.

Not to kink-shame, but:

Disney shared its news with the world and many – people who had obviously witnessed Trevorrow’s latest film – were quick to
dismiss the choice #nottodaynottrevorrow

Trevorrow who by now will undoubtedly be well aware of the ocean of fan tears, said of his new gig: “This is not a job or an assignment. It is a seat at a campfire, surrounded by an extraordinary group of storytellers, filmmakers, artists and craftspeople. We’ve been charged with telling new stories for a younger generation because they deserve what we all had—a mythology to call their own. We will do this by channeling something George Lucas instilled in all of us: boundless creativity, pure invention and hope.”

Meanwhile, to keep up a steady stream of films, standalone Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One is expected to be release 2016 – starring Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelsohn, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker and Riz Ahmed – and will look a little something like:
