Appearing on the UK’s Jonathon Ross Show, Sir Ian McKellen dropped the matrimonial beans, revealing “I’m going to marry Patrick [Stewart]. I am going to officiate at his wedding.” Stewart is to wed long time partner, Jazz singer Sunny Ozell. Pressed by Ross as to how he is qualified to preside over the ceremony, McKellen was unsure.
“I don’t know, but in Massachusetts, in the middle of
America somewhere, you get a friend along, and I read out the words, and
Sunny and Patrick will then be married. … I’ve done it once before with
two guys having a civil partnership. I was crying my eyes out.”
While McKellen is hazy about the fine print, the union will be legit thanks to a provision in the Massachusetts’ Secretary of Commonwealth which allows a family friend or relative to perform a wedding for $25. Needless to say, this is awesome and makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
