A choral version of Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day” will give you shivers of soap-spurred anticipation for the coming third season of period melodrama Downton Abbey. Season Three opens in 1920 where it is clear that the passage of time hasn’t prevented the Crawley family and their extensive cast of help from bumping uglies with scandal at every turn.
Shirley MacLaine joins the cast as Cora’s American mother who the Dowager Countess clearly disapproves of (can’t wait to see these two exchange barbs), and Bates remains locked in the clink. The trailer (below) also suggests homo footman Thomas might be getting some tail this Season.
Downton Abbey returns to British television on September 16th and the US on January 6th, 2013 on PBS. Time to visit the torrent shop, me thinks…
