Sam Frost Fires Back At Summer Bay-Holes Mad At Her ‘Home And Away’ Role

Sam Frost, the former Bachelorette, ex-radio host, current ‘Hell’s Kitchen‘ contestant and soon-to-be ‘Home and Away‘ star, has hit back at naysayers sledging her casting in Australia‘s long-running soap.

Since the admittedly extremely surprising news broke, various industry experts have slammed ‘Home and Away’ for engaging in what they see as a publicity stunt, including her ‘Home and Away’ star of an ex-boyfriend. (No, not that one – her before-she-was-famous one.)

Ex Paul O’Brien, who left Summer Bay in 2009, decided to discuss the whole thing via a Facebook Live video, where he wasn’t exactly rude about it, but he did claim she got the part purely for having a ~personality~, in the media sense of the word. (FWIW, ‘Home and Away’ casting peeps said they were “blown away” by her audition.)

“By being a personality it means people know your brand, they know your product, and they know where you fit,” he said. “If people haven’t trained as an actor they tend to bring themselves, they don’t know how to do anything else – which looks so much better in auditions. (It’s) a lot better than trained actors who are trying to be someone else or are trying to be true to the writer in the scene.”

Plus there was Australian Acting Academy artist director Brendan Glanville, who has trained ‘Home and Away’ actors, absolutely slamming the casting to the Daily Telegraph.

“To me it demonstrates that ‘Home and Away’ has lost faith in its writers if directors are resorting to this kind of stunt, rather than using their storylines to pull viewers,” he said.

“I can’t comment on Sam Frost’s acting because some people have a natural ability, but this is a non-artistic choice that is disappointing.

“I think this is what’s known as ‘jumping the shark’, in other words attempting to create publicity for something that is perceived as not warranting the attention, especially something that is believed to be past its peak.”

People on the ‘Home and Away’ Facebook page have been heaps negative as well, and look, to be fair, it’s not as if anyone expected a reality TV star / media personality to suddenly give acting a burl.

But she’s now hit back at the negativity surrounding her casting on Instagram.

“I am not afraid to challenge myself, to push through barriers,” she said. “I work incredibly hard professionally & personally to constantly grow, learn and evolve. I have chosen to live my life embracing opportunities & challenges with open arms. It may work, it may not… but at least I can say I was brave enough to give it a shot.”

Her first scenes are expected to be airing later this year. We’ll hold our judgement till then.
