‘Riverdale’ Is Losing Ross Butler For S2 & We Can Think Of 13 Reasons Why

Life seems pretty alright for Ross Butler, the 26-year-old actor who managed to snag roles in the two biggest teen TV events in recent memory, but the 13 Reasons Why and Riverdale cast member has now relinquished his role in the latter.

And that could mean all kinds of things for the future of 13 Reasons Why.

Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has confirmed that Butler won’t be returning for the show’s second season, owing to “his commitments to other projects.”

While 13 Reasons Why hasn’t yet been tapped for a follow-up season, its insane popularity suggests Netflix will be keen on Round 2, presumably with Butler returning to play Zach Dempsey.
Jay Asher, The author behind the series’ source novel, has also hinted that he’d be down to explore what happens to the show’s characters following the first series’ finale.

FWIW, that doesn’t mean the end of Butler’s Riverdale character Reggie, oh no. Aguirre-Sacasa says the role will be recast, adding “those are big shoes to fill, but we’re confident we can find an actor who is as funny and sexy as Ross.”

It’s a wild time for teen dramas, and you might just be seeing Butler in on your small screens again – even if it ain’t on Riverdale.
