Producer Says ‘The Hunger Games’ Series Ain’t Done Yet, Hints At Spin-Offs

Surprise! The end of the Hunger Games film series… isn’t the end of the Hunger Games film series.
In a move that shouldn’t be a shock to anybody, the producers of the movie franchise – perhaps you’ve heard of it – have said they want stretch the story, both ways, into infinity.

Lionsgate’s VP Michael Burns told a conference earlier today the film saga “would live on and on”, because a two-part finale just ain’t gonna cut it any more; all the cool kids are looking into that sweet, sweet extended universe dollar.
The director of the final two films, Francis Lawrence, had tossed the idea around previously, saying “it’s a tricky thing, but I’m definitely open to talking about it, and I think everybody’s thinking about it.”
Now, Burns’ most recent comments all but seal the deal, but unless author Suzanne Collins pumps out some more Katniss/Peeta exploits on the quick, you can expect any new flicks to be set in the Panem of yore.
What’s more: that’d mean the return of those signature kiddie death-pits. Burns went ahead and reignited our pubescent bloodlust, saying “if we went backwards there obviously would be arenas,” which were mostly absent in the franchise’s two-parter finale. TEENAGE BLOODSPORTS YEAH.
Perhaps it’s too long a bow to draw, but the uber-franchise trend of mining sub-plots and side stories for new material fits pretty snugly into the way stories are experienced in today’s ~ pop culcha landscape ~, especially for sagas like The Hunger Games, which many fans have now followed for years.
It’s also nice to note the real-world production company has taken Haymitch’s most poignant advice to heart.
