One of this year’s most anticipated movies, The Hunger Games, opens in Australian cinemas on March 22. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the premise of the film, adapted from Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel of the same name, without going into to much detail it’s like a youth-skewed take on The Running Man set in a post-apocalyptic alternate universe. Like its young adult fantasy-fiction contemporary, Twilight, The Hunger Games has been embraced by millions of readers around the world. But Twilight this ain’t.
The earliest reviews of the film have been extremely enthusiastic, including one recently penned by the UK Telegraph film critic, Robbie Collin, who wrote in his review : The Hunger Games is an essential science fiction film for our times; perhaps the essential science fiction film of our times. Whatever your age, it demands to be devoured.
Here is another clip from the film that has just been released, featuring Jennifer Lawrence and our own Liam Hemsworth. The studio has released several scenes from the movie as YouTube clips, but hopefully this irritating Hollywood habit of excessive pre-release teasers, trailers and clips won’t ruin the film. That said, watch them at your own risk.
