Nintendo Might be Bringing Classic ’90s Games to Smartphones

Were you looking to get any work done ever again? No? Good, because it seems like the best time-waster ever might be coming your way, in the form of old-school Nintendo games.

Basically, the Japanese video game company, who are usually pretty fastidious about their shit, have filed a patent to allow emulation of their 8-bit Gameboy hardware on other platforms.
To put it more simply, this means that games from their classic early ’90s hand held device could eventually be available to play on your smartphone (or plane seat back, or whatever), with Nintendo’s blessing.

There are currently various emulators that allow you to play hacked versions of these games on android phones, but Nindendo are not particularly chill with this scenario, and Apple don’t allow them at all.

As Complex and other outlets have pointed out, nothing is definite yet, and this could just be Nintendo’s way of protecting their assets, even as they go unused.
Between the late ’80s and mid ’90s, the Gameboy racked up a list of stone-cold classic titles including the Red and Blue versions of Pokémon, various Mario, Donkey Kong and Kirby games and The Legend Of Zelda; Link’s Awakening.
That’s some A+ video game nostalgia right there. Nintendo, we are begging you, please deal with whatever licensing issues you need to make this happen so we can throw our money at you and party like this forever:
