Netflix Trialing Private Viewing Mode To Hide Your Binge Watch Shame

Anyone with a Netflix account – which, according to recent reports, is plenty of you – is aware of one universal truth: there are no secret guilty pleasures. Spent a hungover Sunday watching Toddlers & Tiaras? Perhaps you’ll be interested in these 20 other child-based beauty pageant programs. Caught an ep of The Bachelor in a moment of weakness? There’s plenty more where that came from.
Luckily, your days of trash-cluttered recommendations could be coming to an end: the phenomenally popular streaming service is trialing a private viewing mode to let you choose what factors into your personal taste algorithm. Netflix’s director of corporate communications and technology, Cliff Edwards, told GigaOm:
“At Netflix we continuously test new things. In this case, we are testing a feature in which a user watching a movie or TV show can choose to view in “Privacy Mode.” Choosing that option means the program will not appear in your viewing activity log, nor will it be used to determine recommendations about what you should watch in the future.”
No more awkward explanations next time you hand your password over to the house-sitter. Now you can pretend you watch Breaking Bad and House Of Cards exclusively! Very tasteful!
