New redband trailer (swears ahoy!) for “No Strings Attached”, an Apatowian (Apatowesque?) rom-com headlined by Academy award nominee, Mother to be and woman most likely to win this year’s best actress gong, Natalie Portman, and guy with a Twitter account, Ashton Kutcher. Ludacris and Kevin Kline feature too in what looks to be a terrible comedy about best friends who become “friends with benefits” by way of horniness and a mutual fear of commitment.
That’s how we get the title (which would have better served a rom-com about puppets who become humans) and the easy dramatic tension wrought by choosing between friendship and sex because both are mutually exclusive things that can never exist in the same person. Or can they? Can you be someone’s Natalie Portman’s best friend and lover without developing romantic feelings along the way? If this doesn’t play out exactly like I think it will, movies are in no way representative of real life.
