‘Modern Family’ Renewed For One More Season Because [Cash Register Noise]

Modern Family is officially returning to screens for its eleventh season, obliterating hopes the sitcom mainstay would end things on a nice, round number.

Variety confirmed the wholly inoffensive show will hit screens once more across the 2019-2020 season, almost a full year after creators Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd said Season 10 would likely be the last.

At the time, Levitan told The Hollywood ReporterOur plan is to end it at 10. If we can leave with most of our audience wanting more, I think that’s the right way to do it.”

In a new statement obtained by Variety, Lloyd poked fun at that earlier assumption.

“For 10 years, our characters have bravely faced turning points in life and moved through them to great personal enrichment; we have chosen a different path by doing one more season of Modern Family,” he said.

While Modern Family has achieved massive critical acclaim and staggering audience numbers, the show’s ratings have waned slightly in the years since its premiere.

Levitan and Lloyd promised a major death in Season 10 to keep things spicy, and bloodlusted fans were somewhat disappointed to discover DeDe (Shelley Long) was written off the show.

However, the announcement of what amounts to a bonus season presents a unique opportunity for even more carnage. We propose that Manny (Rico Rodriguez) emerges as the sole survivor.

Look at him. The man is invincible.
