Beloved Scrubs actor Sam Lloyd, who played the hapless lawyer Ted Buckland on the show, has died at the age of 56, with his agent confirming the news overnight.

Last year, Lloyd and his wife were celebrating the arrival of a new baby girl when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour, which was tragically found to be inoperable.

Scrubs producer Tim Hobert set up a GoFundMe for the actor and his family, and it has raised more than $150,000 for medical, childcare and other expenses.

Zach Braff paid tribute to his former co-star, saying:

“Rest In Peace to one of the funniest actors I’ve ever had the joy of working with. Sam Lloyd made me crack up and break character every single time we did a scene together. He could not have been a kinder man. I will forever cherish the time I had with you, Sammy.”

Lloyd appeared in more than 95 episodes of Scrubs, and reprised the role of Ted in the series Cougar Town, which was also made by creator Bill Lawrence.

His other credits include appearances in Desperate Housewives, Happy Together, Shameless, Modern Family, Spin City and Seinfeld.

Bill Lawrence took to Twitter to say: “Thinking a lot about Sam Lloyd today. (Ted). Truly such a kind, sweet guy. He will be missed by so many.”

RIP.
