Overnight, the internet very nearly lost its damn mind after an alluringly vague Instagram post from country singer Billy Ray Cyrus teased the possibility that his daughter Miley had married her fiancé Liam Hemsworth.
Billy Ray, in proud dad mode, posted a picture of Miley smiling beatifically in a white dress and captioned it ‘I’m so happy … you are happy”, leading strongly to the conclusion that she had tied the knot.
Getting married in secret would be very on-brand for free spirit Miley, and Billy Ray further fuelled the rumour by retweeting fans who asked if a wedding had taken place.
Just as we were imagining Miley and Liam’s blissful barefoot beach wedding – because that’s totally how they’d do it, right? – her manager came along and cruelly shot the rumours down.
A statement just given to US Weekly confirmed that there were no secret nuptials, saying only: “[It was] just some great photos that happen to have been taken in a white dress.”
On the upside, at least this means there’s a vague chance we could still score an invitation when these two tie the knot.
