Michael Caine Explains Inception Ending, Nolan To Make Batman 3

Spoilers ahead of course…

If you’re familiar with the more contentious corners of the internet (ahem, IMDB forums), you’ll know that Inception conspiracy theorists are legion. And despite your well-reasoned personal opinions on the film’s ambiguous final scene, one man has a definitive answer to whether Cobb’s top spun perpetually or wavered and eventually fell. In effect telling us whether the film’s final scene was grounded in reality or all a dream. That man’s name is Michael Caine and in a recent interview with BBC Radio’s Chris Moyles, the longtime Nolan collaborator said this of the film’s final scene:

“[The spinning top] drops at the end, that’s when I come back on. If I’m there it’s real, because I’m never in the dream. I’m the guy who invented the dream.”

Gasp. All real. All of it. Straight from the Caine’s mouth.

In related news, Christopher Nolan will probably (hopefully) return for a third Batman movie. In a recent interview with Empire Magazine Nolan said a third installment was pretty much inevitable: “It’s becoming inevitable, I’ll put it that way…I feel myself falling into it, I guess. And getting it all figured out and I’m pretty excited about what we’re doing so… If I haven’t announced it, I think that people probably all know at this point that I’m doing it.”

Thank God for that.
