New Inception Trailer Still Confusing

After enigmatic references to the sub-conscious, dreams and a Matrix-channeling world where secrets manifest physically and ideas can be stolen, the third trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Inception has finally hit the interwebs to clear up the film’s terribly confusing premise…sort of.

As we reported last year, Inception is the brainchild of cerebral British visionary Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Memento, The Prestige) and boasts an eclectic international cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Caine, Marion Cotillard, Ken Watanabe and Cillian Murphy. As is Nolan’s M.O., details on the premise have mostly been vague but in the latest theatrical trailer below, we have the most revealing look at what reads like Sigmund Freud’s mind-bending take on The Matrix but with more flying and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Not only that, it looks like Nolan’s most visually ambitious project to date.

So what’s it all about then? Well judging from this trailer, Leonard DiCaprio enters people’s dreams, waits for secrets to reveal themselves then steals ideas and uses them to do…stuff? It’s that kind of “there is no spoon” semantic mind-fuckery that doesn’t really make sense unless you’re a hippie or physicist but with Nolan at the wheel we’ll totally go along for the ride.

Inception hits theaters July 16.
