“Me And Earl And The Dying Girl” Sweeps Top Prizes At Sundance

The notorious Oscar-predicting barometer Sundance wrapped up over the weekend, after having premiered a slew of sick films, debuting Jason Segel‘s first srs role, and seeing Lena Dunham call out Woody Allen. Festival and awards season, how I literally die for thee.

At Sundance’s award ceremony held in Utah over the weekend, the festival’s darling “Me And Earl And The Dying Girl”, based on Jesse Andrew‘s 2013 novel of the same name, is essentially a richer man’s/hipper man’s “The Fault In Our Stars” (“a pair of high school film-lovers who befriend a girl with cancer”) and is directed by Alfonso-Gomez Rejon (director of ‘American Horror Story‘ and ‘Glee’ episodes, oddly enough). The film stole Sundance’s heart so convincingly it took out both the Grand Jury Prize and The Audience Award – the same double whammy that Oscar-nominated ‘Whiplash‘ secured last year.

‘The Wolfpack‘, a fascinating documentary following the lives of seven siblings who were homeschooled in the confines of their NYC apartment by their overbearing father, took out Sundance’s top documentary award.

Thomas Mann, RJ Cyler, Olivia Cooke, Nick Offerman, Connie Britton and Molly Shannon star in ‘Me And Earl And The Dying Girl”, and you will see it because of course you will. Hanging out for a trailer for Earl? Too bad, nerds, the internet is letting us down today, and none exists. Happy Monday!

Instead, here’s a dumb cast portrait taken at the festival. Still recovering poorly from Nick Offerman’s newly transformed face.
